December Devlog

I write this as the night unfurls, my abode blanketed in thick snow, hands trembling as the keys go clack, clack, clack. Soon, the old year will draw its last, withered breath.
(Belated) happy holidays!
First off, thank you so much to all of you who’ve downloaded, shared, followed or taken an interest in the demo for Kit! I didn’t prepare myself for the anxiety I’d be hit with after pressing that upload button (haha…) but your support has done so much to reassure me that putting my work out there is worth it. ;-;
Thank you all, again. ;-; Now, onto the progress!
Chapter one was nice and contained in terms of audio, visuals and mood. Chapter two is veering straight off that road and over a cliff. Let’s take sound, for example.
Chapter one only uses three background music tracks. Chapter two is looking at seven new tracks, for a total of 10 so far. (Some are variations of each other, granted).
As a musician Kit is a “this is so quintessentially me” soundtrack, and just imagining the scenes gives me so much drive to finish the score as I write it, even if I wilt a bit every time I realize I need a new track for another scene… ahaha…
For consistency’s sake, my first order of business was finishing all the character portraits for the game, though only three new faces appear in this chapter. Can you guess who?
Unlike chapter one, there are scenes that take place outside of a cellar-Which means that I currently have to draw things you’d find outside of a cellar. :’)
An upside to this is that I get to make the game look prettier. Here’s a mockup of one:
(That’s not an actual line from the game. Sorry.)
This chapter is looking at two story illustrations and a handful of backgrounds that still have to be completed. Onward!
Content wise, chapter 2 is about 70% written and 30% coded. The good news is that it’s coming along faster than expected (probably thanks to not having to wrangle with ren’py nearly as much as I did during spooky month. :’) )
This means I should be on track to release the extended demo (chapters 1 and 2) in February!
The bad news is that I didn’t take a break after uploading the demo like I said I would *cough*
Here’s a final sneak peak:
Kit’s probably fine, right? Anyways, thanks for tuning into this first behind the scenes look at Kit! Hopefully I’ll see you again soon, and I hope you have a happy new year!
